This app looks at the carbon intensity of the energy produced by different generation sources. The lifetime emissions associated with the extraction of fuel and the building and decommissioning of the power plants is not considered in this app for any generation type (fossil fuel, renewable or nuclear).
Nuclear energy does not produce CO2 when plants are generating electricity. The “banding” of the forecasting screen, and recommendations for when to use electricity or not, are based solely on carbon intensity. Therefore this app will promote the use of electricity during times with a relatively high amount of nuclear energy.
